We’re proud to share that Wealth Wizards, our student-led social enterprise, has been named Company of the Year, placing 1st out of 76 teams, beating out schools such as RCHK and DGS in this year’s JA x HSBC Company Programme in Hong Kong, continuing on Island Schools existing legacy.
Over the past seven months, our team of 38 Year 11 and 12 students have worked tirelessly to promote financial literacy in an innovative and meaningful board game. Through partnerships with ESF, IBEL, and Refugee Union, we've reached over 8,000 students across 20+ schools.
Ultimately, our mission is to make financial literacy accessible through experiential learning by creating an engaging and rewarding learning experience for all through our board game, Wealth Wizards.
After facing initial disappointment at our pop-up, where our English-only board game priced at $199 was found to be inaccessible in a Cantonese-speaking city, placing us as the first runners-up for the “Best Offering,” we launched Wealth Wizzies, a HK$20 bilingual card game designed for underserved communities to teach essential skills like budgeting, saving, and smart spending.
To date, we've sold 150+ units and earned over HK$30,000 in revenue, HK$1,000 of which has been donated to charity.
On May 7th during lunchtime, we had the exciting opportunity to be interviewed by Benny Kwok from the Hong Kong Economic Journal (HKEJ), a leading Chinese-language financial media outlet in Hong Kong. The interview will be featured in Chinese on the HKEJ Education Facebook page. We discussed how the competition aligned with what we've learned in class, the challenges we faced during preparation, and innovative strategies for nurturing entrepreneurship. Stay tuned for the story!
We would like to thank Ms. Kim, Mr. Wilkinson, and Ms. Deborah Chan (our business advisor) for their invaluable support throughout our journey.
This is just the beginning.
Look out for our upcoming school pop-up stall to explore and purchase our games in person.
