On Thursday, May 9th, all Year 8 students participated in their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Day. The teams were faced with challenges related to the possible consequences of global warming and climate change, particularly heavy rains and flooding. Design and construction of emergency pumps to remove floodwater, determination of the best household drying agent to save drowned electronic devices and identification of bacterial contamination allowed for the students to exhibit all six of Island School's competencies and their own ingenuity. Prizes for the STEM day will be awarded in the Year 8 Assembly on 22nd May. As always a massive thank you to the school technicians for making this day possible.
