On October 2nd, teachers from the Science department took all Year 12 IB Biology and Environmental Systems and Societies students to Little Palm Beach in Clearwater Bay. Despite the heat and disruptions from the recent typhoon, it was a very productive day.
Students assessed biodiversity on the shore using quadrats and a line transect, and collected data on barnacle diameter from the lower and upper shores. Back at school, we applied statistical techniques to analyse the data, which is an integral part of the IB programme.
We rounded off the day with a beach clean, showcasing a great community effort. Thank you to the Science technicians, teachers, and enthusiastic students for making this such an enjoyable learning experience.
