On Saturday, February 7th 2026, Island School took part in the 6th edition of the Hong Kong Young Physicists Tournament at The HK Academy for Gifted Education at Sha Tin.

Both the Island School teams had successfully navigated the preliminary round in December, and joined the 14 teams from Hong Kong schools in the final.

Congratulations to Wilson Yan, Arial Jang, Jayden Yuen, Hailey Tong and Dave Kim, who won a Gold Medal. One competitor in this team will be invited to represent Hong Kong in the International Young Physicist Tournament in Zurich from 5th to 12th July 2026.  An excellent Silver medal was won by Ellie Wang, Taijeb Ebrahim, Charisse Lam, Avery Yau and Anya Leung. Both teams faced very strong opposition from other HK schools as well as stringent judging panels, mainly from local universities and can be very proud of their efforts.

Special thanks to Sunwoo Whang who was a superb mentor for both teams and used his experience to guide the teams and rehearse their presentations. Thanks also to Lena Yang for supporting both teams during the final.

All of this would not be possible without Mr. Angus Tong of the Physics Department who again gave his unwavering support and his technical expertise.
