Our recent IB Global Politics field trip on September 3 to Hong Kong’s Crossroads Foundation gave students a powerful opportunity to bridge classroom theory with real-world political engagement. Through immersive simulations and hands-on volunteering—from sorting donations and repairing furniture to preparing kitchen meals—students gained firsthand insight into how local NGOs address a range of political issues.
The activities allowed students to step directly into the reality of global political challenges, sharpening their ability to analyse power dynamics, human rights, and non-state actor responses from multiple perspectives.
This experience also served to support the students' Internal Assessment Engagement Projects, which require active interaction with diverse stakeholders to explore localised political issues. Experiencing NGO operations on the ground equipped our class with authentic primary evidence and real-world contexts to evaluate core concepts like power, agency, and sustainability. By rolling up their sleeves and diving into the work, our students enriched their understanding of global citizenship.
