On Oct 4th and 5th, members of Island School’s Debate Team participated in the Senior Schools Debating Championships, culminating in a spectacular run to the Grand Finals.
The two teams representing Island School were IS Team 1 (Seung June Yoon 11FB, Jodie Li 11DT, Jingxuan Sun 10DT, Chloe Leung 12R) and IS Team 2 (Alisha Wong 11WC, Jiwoo Whang 10FV, Mercy Tse 10DT, and Andrea Cheung 10DH).
After four rounds of intensive debating, IS Team 1 broke second out of 32 total teams, and Debate Club Leaders Seung June Yoon 11FB and Jodie Li 11DT were awarded 9th Best Speaker and 23rd Best Speaker respectively. IS Team 1 proceeded to win the Quarterfinals against KGV and Semifinals against WIS, before being defeated in a closely-decided Grand Finals against CIS.
