Year 11 Social Action Exhibition

Public Photos / Files - DSC02133-1

At Island School, we believe it is essential that our students connect with some of the key global issues that are facing humanity today, both globally and locally. It is essential that they not only have an understanding of how these world issues are interconnected within their own lives but that we empower them with the skills and competencies to tackle these challenges and make a difference in society.

Our Explorations Programme is designed to engage students authentically with these global issues while allowing them to make personal connections and partnerships with local and global communities. On January 21st, our Year 11 students had the opportunity to showcase some of the actions they have been undertaking through their collaborative service learning projects that form part of their formal IGCSE curriculum.

We saw projects ranging from those that explored the issues of poverty and inequalities within Hong Kong to those that explored issues relating to healthy eating, biodiversity loss and marine pollution. The event saw Year 6 primary school students from both Beacon Hill School and Glenealy School attend as a way of kick-starting their own service learning projects they will engage with later this year, through the PYP exhibition. Our Year 11 students will then have the opportunity to go on and mentor these students through their exhibition process, leading to valuable leadership skills being learnt.
