I am sure many of you might be asking, what is this course called Explorations that is on my child’s timetable. Explorations is a compulsory programme that our students in Years 7 to 11 engage with. Its main aim is to empower our young people to become active global citizens. We believe that it is essential to develop the skill set and the competencies in our students, so they can tackle the complex challenges of our interconnected world. The programme encourages them to forge connections with local and global communities, inspiring them to take meaningful action through social initiatives and personal passion projects.
In Year 7, our focus is on the big issues related to food. Students learn about global issues through this lens, both in the classroom and the kitchen. One of the outcomes students engage with is applying their learning by creating a powerful advocacy campaign in the form of a children's storybook. Praveen Narayanan of 8FN took his storybook, called "Move it", a step further and, over the summer, published it on Amazon. Praveen stated, 'my story focused on encouraging students on how they can contribute and take small steps to help solve seemingly big problems. Like many of my classmates, my story focused on the solution rather than the problem to get more people engaged.'
'As I reflected through each step with my book "Move It", I realised that even a small school project can lead to a milestone project. I realised that through my story, I could inspire others as well.'
