Over the weekend of January 17th and 18th, the 2nd Floor of Island School buzzed with the energy of diplomacy and debate as we hosted the 4th Island School Model United Nations Conference (ISLMUN). The event brought together over 200 delegates from 12 local and international schools across Hong Kong, creating a diverse and vibrant forum for global problem-solving.
The conference began with an inspiring opening ceremony featuring a keynote address by Ms. Gunson. Speaking on the conference theme, 'Concord', she encouraged delegates to look beyond simple argumentation. She reminded us that true diplomacy requires not just public speaking prowess, but also the vital skills of active listening and the willingness to consider different perspectives to find harmony.

Throughout the two days, students put these skills to the test, navigating complex international issues. Delegates in the World Health Organization (WHO) grappled with the "Global Rise of Antimicrobial Resistance" , while the Human Rights Council (HRC) addressed urgent humanitarian crises, such as the conflict in Kivu. Meanwhile, the Historical Security Council (HSC) took a step back in time to February 1945 to debate "The Problem of Germany".
It was a challenging weekend of drafting resolutions and intense debate, but our students rose to the occasion. A special congratulations goes to Island School students Praveen and Adhiraaj, who were awarded 'Best Delegate' for their exceptional performance in their committee.
Congratulations to all who participated in making ISLMUN 4.0 a resounding success!
