Over the last two weeks, our Year 9 Humanities students travelled to Mui Wo to research the local impact of tourism. This trip provided the foundation for their upcoming Sustainable Tourism Business Plan assessment, where students must design a viable business that supports the local environment and community.
Working in small groups, students explored the area to gather data by:
- Interviewing Residents: Speaking with locals and visitors to record their views on tourism and community needs.
- Mapping Locations: Identifying potential sites for their business and documenting land use and transport links.
- Gathering Evidence: Taking photographs and field notes of Mui Wo’s unique features and existing tourist amenities.
- Analysing Sustainability: Identifying ways a new business could positively impact the local area.

These local encounters allowed students to see the challenges of tourism development firsthand. They will now use this research to build their professional presentations and business models that will be presented later this term.
