Y11 Bridge Program 2026 Continued

This week, our Year 11 students continued their career exploration journey with another inspiring lineup of guest speakers and an industry visit. 

We were delighted to welcome professionals from diverse fields who shared their expertise, personal journeys, and valuable insights with our students.

 

 

Guest Speaker Sessions:

We were delighted to welcome professionals from diverse fields who shared their expertise, personal journeys, and valuable insights with our students.

Raphael Hui, Island School alumnus (Einstein House, 2002) and Associate at Jun He Law Offices, spoke to students about the legal profession. A graduate of Tufts University (Economics & International Relations) and CityU School of Law (JD and PCLL), Raphael offered practical insights into working as a lawyer in Hong Kong.

Dr Derek Baram, Specialist Orthodontist and Director of Braces and Faces Central, and Dr Kimberlee Onsiong, Dental Surgeon, joined us with an exciting opportunity for students. Their session gave students a fascinating look into the dental and healthcare industry. Dr Baram invites students in Years 11-13 who have top academic scores and a genuine interest in Dentistry to apply for a job shadowing opportunity at his clinic. Hillman Tang from Prime Dynamics returned to campus following last week's industry visit. A Middlesex University graduate in Sports Science, Hillman provided students with a deeper dive into physiotherapy careers, sports management, and sports science.

Milla Lam, Island School Class of 2025 and current student at HKU's BBA(Law) & LLB program, shared her fresh perspective on navigating the leap from IBDP to a competitive dual degree. Students gained firsthand tips on mastering the transition to university and setting the stage for a future in business and law.

Jeanne Ng, Island School alumna (Wilberforce House, 1987), brings decades of experience in corporate sustainability and environmental consulting. A graduate of the University of Toronto (Toxicology) and HKU (PhD in Environmental Management), Jeanne is now Executive Manager at the Hong Kong Jockey Club, where she leads Club-wide sustainability functions. She also serves as an Adjunct Professor in Sustainability. Students were inspired by her extensive career, which spans roles as Chief Sustainability Officer, Environmental Consultant, and Director of Group Sustainability across multinational companies.

Howard Chan, Island School alumnus (Nansen House) and Co-Founder & Managing Director of Shout Limited, delivered an essential session on interview skills. With over 20 years of executive recruitment experience, Howard shared practical tips on how to ace any interview and be better prepared for higher education and future job applications. 

Louisa Dearlove, Co-Founder of Fēnxiǎng, Hong Kong's first peer-to-peer rental and resale platform, spoke about her journey in the fashion industry. A University of Edinburgh graduate, Louisa's career spans London, New York, and Hong Kong. She shared her experience as part of the founding team at W Series (a female motor racing series) and OPUS, and her work with ReThink HK. Students learned about sustainable fashion, entrepreneurship, and the power of connection in building a career.

Andy Raeburn, International Admissions & Recruitment Officer at Carleton University, provided students with a comprehensive overview of studying in Canada. With 18 years of experience visiting schools across Asia, Andy walked students through the application process, financial aid and scholarships, and the unique advantages of co-op and experiential learning at Canadian institutions.

Dr Reece Lewis, Senior Lecturer in Law at Cardiff University and LLM Programme Director, joined us from the UK. An expert in Public International Law, law of the sea, human rights, and territorial governance, Dr Lewis shared his academic journey and research. As an Academic Fellow of the Middle Temple, he also spoke about international engagement and student recruitment across Asia and Europe, offering students a window into legal studies in the UK.

Industry Visit: Towngas

We extend our sincere thanks to Jonathan Kong, Island School alumnus and Vice President of Group Investment & Business Development at Towngas, and the HR Team for hosting our students at the Towngas headquarters. Students had an excellent opportunity to learn about various business functions within the company, the engineering behind its operations, and the diverse career paths available. We are grateful for Jonathan's continued support of the Bridge Program.

Networking and Connections

Following the sessions, students enjoyed a networking lunch where they connected personally with our guests, asked follow-up questions, and continued building their professional networks.
