Our Houses

The House System here at Island School is a way of creating a family spirit amongst our students - but also fostering cooperation and, yes, competition.

At the point in which a student joins us, they are allocated to a House - and they stay in that House throughout their entire time with us. At Island School, our Houses are: Da Vinci, Einstein, Fleming, Nansen, Rutherford and Wilberforce.

Experiential Learning

At Island School, we emphasise experiential learning as a key element of our educational approach. This method encourages students to engage directly with their environment, enhancing understanding through hands-on experiences. Our supportive framework fosters strong relationships and a sense of belonging, which are essential for personal and academic growth.

Student Leadership

While not every one of our students will want to be a leader - either in school or later in life, we recognise that leadership skills are important to all of us as we lead our lives. There are a variety of ways in which our young people can get involved, manage and lead either in the school or in the community.

Community Service

Island School is committed to nurturing a strong sense of community service and encouraging ongoing civic engagement and leadership among our students. Our community service programs are woven into every year level through our house system, with each house supporting a specific organisation throughout the school year and taking turns hosting charity week. This initiative allows students to fundraise for various projects while also fostering meaningful connections with their house's charitable organisation.
